Solange and Jay Z break their silence on hotel elevator incident

Jay Z, Beyoncé and Solange have released a joint statement about the altercation that took place in the elevator following the Met Gala last week—and claim both parties are to blame for the violence that unfolded.

“Jay and Solange assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family,” the statement reads.

“The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different.

“We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”

The statement, originally released to the Associated Press, does not give any explanation or insight as to what may have caused the fight.

Days after a video surfaced of Solange Knowles attacking her sister Beyonce's husband, Jay Z, in an elevator inside a Met Gala after party at The Standard in NYC, a new report claims the real reason behind the dispute has to do with designer Rachel Roy.

According to the new report, it turns out the feud began after Rachel was seen getting a little too close to the 44-year-old rapper.

"At the gala, Rachel was being flirtatious with Jay," a source says. "Once everyone was at the Boom Boom Room for the after-party, her flirtations were elevated."

It didn't sit well with Bey, so she confronted the fashionista, who's the ex-wife of Jay's business partner Damon Dash.

"Beyoncé approached Rachel to let her know the behavior was disrespectful and she wanted her out of their lives for good," the source goes on. "Solange came over to have her sister's back, and things got heated with her and Rachel.

"Jay said some disrespectful things to Beyoncé and Solange as the confrontation was going down. That's why all hell broke loose in the elevator and why Beyoncé just stood back and let Solange hit Jay."

The rest is history. Once Solange, Jay and Bey were inside the elevator, Solange attacked him and it was all caught by a surveillance camera.

As for the two superstars, they put on a united front, enjoying a Brooklyn Nets game together just days after the fight.

The Standard Hotel announced the employee who had leaked the footage had been fired.
